The doctors at Southern Nuclear Imaging are Dr Phillip Monaghan and Associate Professor George Larcos.

Dr Phillip Monaghan

Dr Phillip Monaghan graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1981. Following intern and residency terms at St Vincent’s and Sydney Hospital he completed basic Physician’s training at St George Hospital. He subsequently undertook advanced training in Nuclear Medicine at St George and Prince of Wales Hospitals, completing training in 1990. 
 
Dr Monaghan is Positron Emission Tomography (PET) certified following training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and Westmead Hospital in Sydney. Dr Monaghan holds fellowships in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Australasian Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialists and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. He is a member of the Australian Medical Association, the Australia and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American Society of Nuclear Medicine, the British Society of Nuclear Medicine and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine. 
 
He currently spends an equal amount of time in all practice sites and has particular interest in musculoskeletal and thyroid scintigraphy.
 
He has been a principal of Southern Nuclear Imaging since 1991.


Associate Professor George Larcos

George has previously served as head, Department of Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound, Westmead Hospital and President, Australasian Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialists. As well as a willingness to represent nuclear medicine in discussions with government, industry and advocacy groups, George has an interest in teaching & research.

He has an appointment at Sydney Medical School as a Clinical Associate Professor and previously acted as the Editor for the Australasian Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. He is currently undertaking a PhD with the focus on improving the conduct and safety of nuclear medicine procedures. Having widely published, George brings to the Southern Nuclear Imaging group a wealth of experience in many aspects of nuclear medicine.

In his spare time he enjoys travelling, reading and football. He thinks that Revelation 5:5 is such a great verse that he's even got a T-shirt to prove it.
